Diamonds certificates come from several labs which examine a stone and describe it on their reports. The certificate is merely a description of the stone. It does not ensure quality. All major lab reports say, “This certificate is NOT an appraisal, guarantee, or warranty.”
A Diamond certificate will describe the carat weight, cut, color, and clarity of a stone. In addition, the table and depth percentages will be shown, as well the polish and symmetry of the stone. If the stone is fluorescent that will be noted.
Diamond grading is not a science. It simply reports the professional opinion of that particular grader at that particular time. Sometimes, even within a lab, there is a range of opinions on grades. The same stone can get two different grades!
When selling your Diamond having a certificate helps the buyer determine value. But it is not the most important thing. How your stone looks in person is.
